The wedding answering machine

Audio guest book or a rented vintage phone?

The rotary phone is charming, but it has one handset, in one spot, often right next to the music. While one person talks, the others wait. At the drinks reception, a queue forms. Later on, the dance floor drowns out the voices.

Film 36 puts the answering machine in every guest's pocket.

A message in 30 seconds

For guests 30 seconds

  1. Scan the QR code

On the poster or table card, or open the link sent by WhatsApp, text or email. Everything opens in the browser.

  2. Hear your welcome message

If they want to, with one tap. Nothing plays on its own.

  3. Speak after the beep

Voice message or video message, two minutes at most.

  4. Play it back, then send

They can start over as often as they like. A thank-you screen confirms it has been sent.

For the couple 2 minutes

  1. Record a welcome message

Thirty seconds at most, optional. It puts guests at ease.

  2. Share the QR code

A4 poster, table cards and link, in the style of your wedding.

  3. Listen

To messages through the day, then Play all the morning after.

For guests

Voice or video, each guest chooses

Guests speak when they are ready, after the beep, by voice or on camera. For the shy ones, a prompt appears, such as a tip for their tenth anniversary or a story they have never heard, and changes with one tap.

  • Two minutes at most per message.
  • Play back before sending, and start over if needed.
  • A video or voice memo already on the phone can be picked instead.
  • One message per guest: a new recording replaces the previous one.
  • A guest who cannot come leaves a message from home, through the same link, for 12 months.

Signal

Even without signal, nothing is lost

A country estate, a vaulted cellar: signal is often missing where people get married. The recorded message stays safe on the guest's phone and goes out on its own as soon as the signal comes back: in the car, at the hotel, or the next time the page is opened.

The guest has nothing to redo, and the screen tells them so.

The kiosk

The guest book phone, on a tablet

For grandparents without a smartphone, or to keep the ritual of the phone, set a tablet by the entrance or the bar. Guests record one after another, their name is optional, and their messages join all the others.

  • Full screen, with nothing else from your space.
  • A visible Quit button, but the 4-digit code is required to leave.
  • Without signal, messages wait on the tablet.
  • No equipment to rent: your tablet, or a relative's.

For the couple

The message wall, and Play all

Each guest gets a card in your album's style: a large initial and the voice waveform for a voice message, a frame of the video for a video message, with the name, the day, the time and the length.

Filter voice notes, videos or hidden messages, search by name. And Play all runs through the messages from first to last, like turning the pages of a guest book.

In the demo, the video thumbnails are generic visuals. In a real guest book, it is a frame from the guest's video.

Keep

Messages to play back in ten years

Each message downloads with the guest's name and the time, for example 2026-06-12 21h42 - Camille, one by one or all at once. Keep them, add them to the wedding film, copy them onto a USB stick or have them pressed.

You have 12 months to collect everything, with reminder emails before deletion.

Privacy

By default, only you listen to the messages

  • Sharing them with guests, or playing them during the evening slideshow, are options. Guests are told before they record.
  • The guest book is only open to people with the link or the QR code.
  • Hosted in the European Union, in Ireland. Recordings are only used for the guest book.
  • You can hide a message at any time.

The Film 36 family

The guest book shares the photo album's space: same QR code, same link, same styles. It can also be bought on its own. And it is separate from the Film 36 iPhone app, the disposable camera.

Frequently asked questions

Do my guests need to install an app?

No. The QR code opens a page in the browser, on iPhone and Android alike. No app, no account: a first name is enough.

What about guests without a smartphone?

Set up the kiosk: a tablet by the entrance or the bar where they record one after another. Their messages land in the same guest book.

Are the messages private?

Yes. By default, only the couple listens to them. You can choose to share them with guests or play them during the evening slideshow, and guests are told before they record.

How many messages can we receive?

Up to 500 messages of 2 minutes each. Each guest keeps one message: a new recording replaces the previous one.

How long can guests leave a message?

For 12 months, through the same QR code or link. Guests who cannot come can speak before, during or after the wedding.

What happens if there is no signal at the venue?

The recorded message is kept on the guest's phone and sends itself as soon as the signal returns. On the kiosk, messages wait on the tablet.

Can we turn it into a keepsake, on a USB stick or vinyl?

Every message downloads, named after each guest. You can then copy them onto a stick, have them pressed or add them to the wedding film.

Can I make an audio guest book myself?

Yes, with an old phone, a recorder and some tinkering. But you have to deal with noise, battery, the memory card and the queue on the day. For €19.90, the QR code sorts all of that at once.
