Suncam privacy
The short version: no account, no server of mine. Suncam only asks third-party services for terrain elevation and the map, and everything else stays on your iPhone.
Last updated: 30 September 2026.
The essentials
- Suncam works without an account and without signing up. I run no server: I do not receive, collect or store any data about you.
- Sun and moon calculations run on your iPhone, offline.
- Two third-party services receive data, only to make the app work: OpenTopoData for terrain elevation, and Apple for the map and place search.
- No advertising, no analytics tool, no tracking, no data resale. The app never asks permission to track you across apps.
Who is responsible
Suncam is published by Teddy Verneuil, sole trader, 14 bis rue Magellan, 56860 Séné, France. SIRET 792 687 576 00043. Contact: [email protected].
Since I collect no data, the processing comes down to what the third-party services below do, for the service you ask for by using the app (Article 6.1.b of the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR).
What stays on your iPhone
This data is saved on your device and nowhere else:
- your spots and your folders;
- your settings: language, time format, map type;
- the start date of your free trial. It is kept in the iOS Keychain so the trial does not start over if you reinstall the app. It is not synced with iCloud.
Deleting the app erases all of this, with one exception: the trial date, which stays in the Keychain. I have no access to this data.
What leaves the phone, and where it goes
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| OpenTopoData api.opentopodata.org | The GPS coordinates of points around your spot, to five decimal places (about one metre). Nothing else. | To get the terrain elevation for the "Shade & light" feature. |
| Apple Maps | The coordinates of the map on screen, and the text you type in place search. | To show the map, the place name, its time zone and the search results. |
| Apple (App Store, StoreKit) | Your purchase, handled entirely by Apple. | Payment and restoring the purchase. I never see your payment details. |
These two services apply their own policies, which I do not control: Apple's policy and OpenTopoData. I have no retention period to give you on my side, since I keep nothing.
The "App Privacy" section of the App Store declares a single kind of data: precise location, not linked to your identity, not used for tracking, for app functionality. That is exactly what this page describes.
The permissions requested
You can withdraw each of them at any time in Settings, then Suncam.
- Location (while using the app): to centre the map on you and calculate times on site.
- Camera: augmented reality, which overlays the sun's path on what you see. The image is neither saved nor sent.
- Photos (add only): to save, when you ask, a scouting photo with the sun's paths drawn on it. Suncam cannot read the rest of your photo library.
No advertising, no tracking, no profiling
Suncam contains no analytics tool, no advertising and no tracker. Nothing is resold, nothing is cross-referenced, no profile is built.
Transfers outside the European Union
Apple and OpenTopoData are providers I do not control: their servers may be outside the European Union, and I cannot promise otherwise. What these services receive is limited to what the table above describes: map coordinates, without your name or any account. Like any online service, though, they do see the IP address of your connection.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. Since I hold no data about you, there is nothing to ask me to erase: deleting the app is enough. For any question: [email protected], I reply within thirty days.
You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, cnil.fr, or with your local authority.
Children
Suncam is used without any data collection and contains no targeted content. It is not designed for children, but it poses no particular data risk to them.
This website
This site sets no cookies and does not measure its audience. Its host, Cloudflare, Inc., may keep technical logs (IP address, requested page) to keep the service secure and running.
Changes
This policy may change with the app. The update date at the top of the page is the reference, and any significant change will be flagged in the app.
